About

The project transforms a personal archive into a reflection on how memory changes under the influence of technology and personal perception errors. Old photographs here become material for doubts and internal disputes. At the core of Yuri Chernyshev's work are childhood and youth photos from the artist's personal archive, processed through a neural network. Static photographs gain movement, voice, and a new illusory authenticity, but at the same time, they begin to noticeably distance themselves from what actually happened. Artificial intelligence not only brings the past to life but also distorts it, creating images that resemble genuine memories while being disturbingly inaccurate. The video is accompanied by generated comments based on the author's real voice, further enhancing the sense of documentary. However, it is at this moment that the work prompts doubt about the very nature of memory: even the most convincing traces of the past do not guarantee accuracy, as memory is always tied to reconstruction, loss of details, and subsequent interpretation. The way of presentation plays a special role. The personal story is broadcast through a television - a medium traditionally associated with trust in the image. In front of the screen is a chair, and when the viewer sits in it, they hear the author's internal monologue, attempting to reconstruct how everything really was.
