About this event

The oratorial suite by Slonimsky will be presented as a musical manifesto, combining the power of the choir, soloists, and orchestra. The fifth subscription of the St. Petersburg Cappella continues its cycle, offering listeners one of the most powerful works of Soviet musical drama - the oratorial suite from the opera "Virineya" by Sergey Slonimsky. This composition, based on the eponymous story by Lydia Seifullina, became a significant statement about the fate of women in the revolutionary era. In the concert version, the opera appears as a compact yet expressive suite, featuring the choir, orchestra, and soloists of the Cappella. Slonimsky creates a powerful emotional and musical image, relying on the expressive means of 20th-century academic music: tense dramaturgy, sharp contrasts, choral multi-dimensionality, and poignant orchestration. The poster for St. Petersburg is available on KudaGo.
