“Music and life do not separate” says saxophone virtuoso James Carter, “my elders have taught me that music is a culture and a way of life.” Grown up with the recordings of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald and having shared a stage with Wynton Marsalis at a young age, the musician has been among the most celebrated jazz figures of his generation, known for a high-energy musical approach that traverses tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones. Having released numerous recordings to date under labels like Blue Note, EmArcy, and Atlantic, James Carter will be a guest of the 36th Akbank Jazz Festival with a concert at the Zorlu PSM Turkcell Platinum Stage on October 3, as part of the Coltrane: A Centennial Supreme tour. Carter summarizes this special performance in the spirit of celebrating the centennial of maestro Coltrane’s birth as follows: “I think it’s essential that we really focus on not just the overwhelming catalog of Coltrane’s musical output, but also on the spirit that brought these documents forth. It is our number one objective in this group to celebrate and [...] to join his spirit in these performances for you.” James Carter: Saxophones Gerard Gibbs: Piano Hilliard Greene: Bass Alex White: Drums - The event organiser reserves the right to refuse entry to the venue to any person deemed unsuitable or likely to disturb other guests, subject to a refund of the ticket price. - Guests must adhere to the specified seating arrangement.
