In this architecture class, students will take on the role of ancient Greek architects: they will envision the bustling quarters of Panticapaeum, learn how an impregnable mountain transforms into a city-amphitheater, and understand how stone, tiles, and amphorae come together in a well-thought-out plan of an ancient metropolis. When it comes to ancient Greek poleis, temples and colonnades come to mind, but behind the beautiful ruins always lies the labor of the architect. This class for students aged 12-15 at the Arsenal helps to see the ancient city as a living organism, where the terrain dictates the rules, and the master seeks a way to turn a complex slope into a comfortable living space.
