About

The archaeological project tells about the findings in one of the largest burial mounds of the Tuva Valley of Kings. Uninterrupted burials of young warriors and thousands of gold items help to look at the culture of ancient nomads in a new way. At the center of the exhibition are materials from the study of the Chinge-Tey I memorial complex in the Republic of Tuva. Over several decades, excavations have revealed information about burial traditions, military elite, and the structure of ancient nomadic society. Particularly important are nine untouched burials of young warriors: they varied by age and status, and their placement within the large burial mound helped to see the connection between status, ritual, and memory. The main focus is on the find from the 2022 field season - an untouched burial of a young man. Based on the inventory composition, researchers classify him as belonging to the high nobility or the circle of renowned warriors. Next to him, several thousand gold items were discovered, including examples of ancient jewelry craftsmanship. Find other exhibitions in St. Petersburg on KUDAGO.
