About

The video essay addresses the theme of artificial intelligence through the image of a prolonged winter - a period when the promises of technology collide with the limits of their capabilities. The project examines how neural networks reproduce cultural patterns. The work of the art group Massalia is based on the very concept of "AI winter" - a period of cooling interest in artificial intelligence, when loud expectations are replaced by disappointment, criticism, and a sense of deadlock. The authors transfer this term from the history of technology to the artistic result produced by the neural network and offer to see what happens when a machine tries to imitate great literature. To do this, the algorithm was trained to generate texts in the style of Russian classics. However, instead of a true authorial voice, it creates an averaged, predictable speech, compiled from already known intonations and cultural clichés. The neural network here does not open a new artistic language, but mechanically combines familiar forms, turning literary memory into a smooth and impersonal stylization. This textual layer corresponds to the winter landscape filmed from a train traveling along the Trans-Siberian Railway. Before the viewer emerges a textbook picture: Russian winter, road, endless space. Combining the video sequence with generative writing, the work forms a statement about a culture stuck in repetition. Where to go in Moscow today, KudaGo knows.
