The large-scale exhibition tells the two-century history of Zhostovo painting and its journey from a craft workshop to a global phenomenon of national art. The exhibition is a joint project of the Zhostovo Decorative Painting Factory and the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve. The occasion is the 200th anniversary of the craft, which has long occupied a special place among traditional artistic crafts in Russia. More than three hundred exhibits allow us to trace how forms, materials, and artistic principles have changed - from the first metal trays of artisanal production to authorial works of the 21st century. For the first time, the organizers present a wide selection of archival finds, experimental products, and items created in collaboration with contemporary designers. The exhibition also includes early examples of painting related to the period of the craft's formation. The opening of the workshop of the Vishnyakov brothers in 1825 is considered the starting point of the history of Zhostovo utensils: they managed to transform craft experience into a stable artistic tradition that eventually gained nationwide recognition. Today, the Zhostovo Factory is a full-cycle production enterprise and holds the status of intangible cultural heritage of the peoples of Russia. Here, masters of several generations work, and the trays and decorative items of the factory are kept in the largest museums of the country. The exhibition features trays from the mid-19th century, avant-garde experiments by artists of TsNOPS and NIIHP from the 1920s-1930s, and works by Boris Grafov, Oleg Gavrilov, and Vasily Duzhaev from the collection of "Rosizо". For the first time, items from the private collection of Alexander Bychkov are shown, including a collection of trays and products from the factory's toy workshop - painted spatulas, dustpans, buckets, and souvenirs created for significant dates of the 20th century. A separate part of the exhibition is dedicated to modernity: collaborations of the factory with Russian designers, including projects carried out together with the brand Radical Chic.
