Diploma projects from different years show how folk crafts change in the hands of young masters while retaining recognizable features. The exhibition features icon painting, textiles, enamel, lacquer miniatures, interior items, and jewelry. What happens to craftsmanship when a new generation of artists masters it? The answer is provided by the graduation works of students from the College of Design and Decorative Arts of the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry. Alongside the iconographic images, lace, artistic embroidery, woven fabrics, and carpets are presented. Enamel painting coexists with lacquer miniatures, costume elements with jewelry and interior items. The difference in techniques allows us to examine how ornament, color, texture, and narrative work in wood, metal, fabric, and other materials. The college has existed for over a century and remains a place where knowledge about the crafts of the peoples of Russia and the former USSR is passed on. Students rely on established schools but do not limit themselves to repeating samples: traditional techniques become the basis for their own compositions and modern pieces.
