Can we recall childhood through drawings - not our own, but others', from old books? The National Art Gallery "Hazina" offers just such a route - through illustrations familiar from the pages we once flipped through at night. The exhibition is centered around the works of Alexander Tumanov and Tavil Khaziakhmetov - key authors of book graphics in Tatarstan in the second half of the 20th century. They are united by their school and years of work, but in the halls, this is perceived as two different views of the children's world. Khaziakhmetov's work features ornamentality, attention to national plasticity, and motifs of folk culture; Tumanov's work showcases a free approach to form and a more universal visual language. On the walls are original illustrations: fairy tales, poems, scenes with gentle humor and precise details, executed in watercolor, ink, and etching. Nearby are the books themselves from the collections of the N.I. Lobachevsky Scientific Library of KFU: they can be viewed as independent objects, with covers, layout, and rhythm of pages.
