About

The exhibition transforms the palace halls into a collector's country house, where art becomes a part of life. Paintings, graphics, sculptures, furniture, and rare decorative art objects tell the story of taste, luxury, and the tradition of Russian patronage. At the heart of the exhibition concept is a fantasy about the home of an enlightened patron of the arts. About 100 works come together to form a series of interior scenes: an office, a workshop, a gallery, a living room. This route resembles a walk through a private estate, where each item is chosen intentionally and speaks to the character of the owner, their circle of acquaintances, tastes, and connections to European culture. The image of the villa connects several historical layers. Here, ancient motifs resonate, along with the memory of Russian patrons from different eras and the history of the palace's owner, Count Alexander Stroganov. Special impressions are made by items associated with the luxury of the Russian Empire: bronze vases, marble, rare paintings, furniture made of mahogany and Karelian birch. Some exhibits are shown after serious restoration, including a fireplace screen with embroidery and portable bookshelves from the early 19th century. Next to the museum masterpieces, vases from the Friedrich Bergenfeld factory from the private collection of Mikhail Karisalov appear. Find other exhibitions in St. Petersburg on KUDAGO.
