About

Festive sarafans, rare kokoshniks, ancient embroidery, and golden lace reveal the folk costume as a complex system of symbols and tastes. The focus is on the large collection of Natalia Shabelskaya and the history of its museum reinterpretation. The exhibition is based on the famous collection of Natalia Shabelskaya - a collector who purposefully preserved samples of folk clothing and decorative crafts at the end of the 19th century. Her collection includes festive costumes, headpieces, jewelry, fabrics, and handmade samples that reflect regional traditions and notions of beauty. Over 450 items from the collections of 19 museums and private collections are presented in the halls. The dialogue between the past and present continues with works by contemporary authors, while a fragment of Rustam Khamdanov's film helps to view tradition through the lens of modern artistic language. The exhibition is accompanied by curator-led tours, creative meetings, master classes, and art mediations. The venue is the Bread House at the Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve.
