About

About 160 posters show how Moscow communicated with its residents for a whole century through advertising columns, shop windows, and the walls of houses. Advertising, agitation, and urban graphics come together to form a chronicle of everyday life and historical turning points. Moscow in the 20th century appears as a city where major events and daily habits were captured in concise graphics. About 160 works demonstrate how the poster shaped the language of the street, set the tone of the era, and changed along with the capital. Through it, goods were sold, movie screenings were announced, donations were collected, sports were promoted, and the modern urban dweller was defined. Here, advertising, agitation, theatrical posters, and graphics about construction, transport, and holidays intersect. The exhibition shows how artists achieved maximum clarity of image. In the "Windows of Satire ROSTA," short captions were combined with folk expressiveness and bold colors. In the works of Vladimir Mayakovsky, Kazimir Malevich, Alexander Rodchenko, and the "Kukryniksy" collective, avant-garde techniques transitioned into serial graphics and became part of the street. A separate narrative is dedicated to printing technology. An unfinished chromolithograph by Boris Borisov is complemented by a projection of missing colors, allowing viewers to see how the image was built from color layers.
