The exhibition tells how the language of scenography has changed over the decades and how the educational workshop of the Department of Fine Arts of the Moscow Academic Art School influenced the big stage. It features works that reveal theatre through sketches, light, texture, and the search for new plastic solutions. The project is dedicated to the centenary of the theatre department of the Moscow Academic Art School and shows how perceptions of stage space have changed within one school. The exhibition is based on diploma works from the educational-methodological fund, which trace the path from painted decoration to a more complex plastic environment, where light, texture, and theatrical models play an increasingly important role. The halls display sketches from different years - from the 1950s to projects by graduates of 2025. Pre-war works have not survived, but among the rare testimonies of the past are sheets by Sergey Lagutin, a graduate of 1934 and a teacher in the department. Such material allows us to see how the artistic taste of future scenographers was formed and why painting and drawing remained the foundation of their profession. A separate line of the exhibition is connected to the names of artists whose works are important for theatre studies and the professional history of the stage. Today, graduates of this field work in theatre, cinema, design, and teaching, so before the audience is not an archival collection, but a living story about a school that continues to influence domestic art.
