The exhibition transports viewers into the domestic world of a prominent party figure, where dogs, a cat, and aquarium fish coexist alongside documents and household items. Through the stories of four-legged pets, the everyday life of a Leningrad apartment and the attitude of city dwellers towards animals a hundred years ago are revealed. Today, pets are pampered, but at the beginning of the 20th century, care for them looked quite different. The exhibition takes visitors back to Leningrad in the 1920s and 1930s and shows how the apartment of a party leader accommodated official matters, a passion for hunting, and attention to pets. Through family stories, the viewer sees what demands were placed on owners and what the daily life of people and animals was like. In the memorial rooms, the atmosphere of the home where hunting dogs of various breeds, a characterful cat, mirror carp, and goldfish lived is recreated. Authentic interiors are complemented by installations that remind of the four-legged and swimming inhabitants of the apartment. Hunting and dog equipment, documents on training pointers, and books about nature and hunting from museum collections help to imagine the everyday life of the owners and their passion for nature outings. An important role is played by the audio performance: fragments of correspondence between Sergey Mironovich and his wife, memories of contemporaries, and quotes from favorite works about nature create a sense of presence. The voices and sounds integrated into the exhibition space bring the past closer and allow a glimpse into the city's history through the fates of those we have come to call our smaller friends.
