The exhibition is dedicated to the anniversary of architect Karl Ivanovich Rossi, whose work defined the classical image of St. Petersburg. In the year of the 250th anniversary of the birth of one of the main architects of St. Petersburg, attention is focused on the scale of his influence on the city. In the early 19th century, he initiated the redevelopment of the central districts, resulting in a branched system of ensembles that united squares and streets along the main thoroughfare and the banks of the Neva. These decisions shaped the ceremonial appearance of the capital and set its classical harmony. The legacy of the master is a cohesive architectural structure where each building works for the common space. Museum collections hold one of the most complete collections of his graphics, including projects for key palaces, theaters, main city squares, and administrative complexes. A special place is occupied by the ensemble of the palace and the surrounding square, where the architect thought through not only the dominant structure but also the residential development, creating a complete urban composition. The exhibition focuses on another significant concept - the theatrical ensemble, in which for the first time in domestic practice, a public building became the main formative element of the urban environment. Alongside the author's drawings and sketches, a rare architectural model from the mid-20th century is presented, allowing one to see the concept in volume.
