Frames by Elena Karusaar take the viewer back to the set of a historical film, where the image of Catherine II is born from costume, light, gesture, and the pause before the take. Here, the history of the 18th century emerges not in the grand museum shine, but in the moment between rehearsal and shot. Elena Karusaar's camera follows the actors, costumes, mirrors, fabrics, and mise-en-scènes as if we are already witnessing an independent drama. The filming process ceases to be behind the scenes: it reveals the search for intonation, work with the image, and the historical atmosphere. In focus are materials related to Vitaly Melnikov's film about Princess Elizabeth Tarakanova and the Catherine era. The photographs feature Svetlana Kryuchkova, Oleg Tabakov, Mikhail Kononov, and other actors. Photo tests and working scenes allow us to see how the screen character is created before editing.
