The exhibition shows how traditional textiles transition from craft to modern design. Antique shawls with characteristic hand printing coexist with works by young authors who reinterpret familiar motifs in new ways and continue the visual history of Shuyskiy calico. The project focuses on the development of textile tradition and its movement through time. At the center of attention are Shuyskiy calicos as a cultural phenomenon that has traveled from factory production in the 19th century to today's design context. The exhibition builds a coherent narrative about how artistic techniques and ornaments receive new interpretations. One part of the exhibition consists of museum items - shawls with hand printing that reflect the aesthetics and craft features of their time. They provide insight into the visual language that has formed in the folk environment. The other part is dedicated to contemporary works created within the framework of a textile design competition. Here, projects working with clothing, interiors, and rethinking traditional techniques are showcased. We share on KUDAGO where to go with children in St. Petersburg.
