The exhibition tells how urban facades and interiors received a second life in the museum space. Fragments of stucco, sculptures, stained glass, and fireplaces come together to tell the story of the people who managed to preserve the fragile details of a disappearing city. At the heart of the project is the story of the formation of the museum's collection of architectural details. When large-scale renovations and reconstructions took place in historical districts, decorative elements were sent to the dump along with construction debris. Museum staff visited the sites, inspected the buildings, selected the most valuable items, and documented the origin of each fragment. They had to not only describe the finds but also organize the dismantling, packing, and transportation of heavy and fragile items. Today, part of this collection is displayed in the exhibition: facade stucco, decorative sculptures, marble fireplaces, panels, and interior elements. You can see ornaments and masks, floral garlands, and mythological characters that once adorned grand halls and staircases. Special attention is given to details associated with the names of prominent architects - fragments of decor from buildings created according to their designs and elements made after models of famous sculptors are presented here. A separate section is dedicated to stained glass from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Glass panels that once illuminated stairwells and living rooms showcase a wealth of plots and shades, while cast iron stove doors with ornaments and symbolic compositions are exhibited nearby. The narrative is completed by large objects - a fountain-bowl with female figures and powerful lion figures stylized as ancient guardians. The exhibition demonstrates that architectural details can exist as independent works of art. The displayed array of facade and interior elements helps to imagine the lost environment and see the labor that goes into the rescue and preservation of urban heritage. The exhibition takes place at the Museum of Architectural Artistic Ceramics, located in the Tsar's Bastion.
