The exhibition shows how the lens of a close person changed the familiar image of the great writer. Sofia Tolstaya's photographs transformed the family chronicle and life at the estate into a living visual diary. The heroine of the project, Sofia Tolstaya, appears not only as the companion of the classic but also as an author who confidently mastered the new art of her time. In her photos, relatives and friends read, stroll, laugh, work, and each such moment becomes a note about the characters of the people and the atmosphere of the home. The first experiments were associated with a heavy camera and complex chemistry. The photographer carefully chose the angle, sought soft light, and composed the shot so that air and movement could be felt in the frame. Family celebrations, everyday life, and meetings with guests come together to form a complete story of the last decades of the writer's life and his surroundings.
