How does a golden thread connect folk costume and court dress? The answer can be found at the new exhibition in the "Russian Art" building of the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum. The exhibition features about 70 items that trace how gold embroidery existed in different cultural traditions. Court dresses and military uniforms coexist with sarafans, kokoshniks, shawls, and festive headdresses of the women from the Russian North and Nizhny Novgorod province. From festive sarafans and kokoshniks from Nizhny Novgorod and Kargopol, the gaze shifts to court outfits from the late 19th century.
