Photographs from different eras come together to tell the story of the city and the people who endured the trials of war. The exhibition addresses the history of Sevastopol through the language of photography, showing how the city changed during the most dramatic periods of its existence. The display unites over two hundred images, as well as documents and personal belongings. One of the starting points is the footage from the Crimean War. At that time, photography first became a tool for documenting military events. Foreign masters documented fortifications, camps, and the aftermath of battles. Special attention is drawn to early prints on salt paper. They convey the atmosphere of the time and allow us to see the city through the eyes of contemporaries. The works of 19th-century photographers complement this narrative. The next layer is related to the events of the Great Patriotic War. By this time, the chronicle became more detailed and emotional.
