About

The exhibition addresses the Enlightenment era and tells about the people who shaped the scientific and cultural landscape of Russia in the 18th and early 19th centuries. Through rare exhibits, it reveals the connection between knowledge, art, and the idea of serving society. The project unites over 120 items from various museum collections and offers a look at the Enlightenment era as a time of intellectual rise and the search for harmony between reason, nature, and culture. The focus is on Russian scholars, thinkers, and artists whose ideas defined the development of science, education, and public thought. Their contributions are presented not abstractly, but through specific items, documents, and artistic images. The conceptual foundation of the exhibition is linked to the image of Parnassus - a symbolic space of inspiration and creative heights. This metaphor helps to understand how a new cultural elite was formed in Russia and the aspiration for knowledge as the highest value was born. A separate narrative is dedicated to Catherine II and her passion for Enlightenment ideals. Visitors will learn about her travels, interest in science, transformation of gardens, and attempts to connect folk traditions with advanced scientific ideas. Kolomenskoye - one of Catherine II's favorite places. The exhibition takes place in the Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. For other interesting exhibitions in Moscow, look for KUDAGO.
