About

The exhibition gathers an image of 19th century Russia from lithographs, where precision of observation, publishing scale, and interest in everyday culture are combined. Before the viewer unfolds a country of grand squares, old streets, fairs, carriages, and urban scenes. At the center of the project is the legacy of the Datsiyaro publishing house, which managed to turn lithography into a detailed visual narrative about the country. These sheets were born at the intersection of the European printing school and an enthusiasm for the Russian theme, thus combining documentary accuracy, decorative expressiveness, and a careful gaze at the historical environment. One part of the exhibition is dedicated to Moscow, shown at an important moment in its history - after recovering from the fire and before the changes that would later radically alter its appearance. Here, familiar symbols of the capital and images of lost monuments, preserved only in old graphics, can be seen. Another part transports us to St. Petersburg during the architectural and imperial flourishing. Grand squares, embankments, palaces, and light effects make these views both precise and almost theatrical. A separate emphasis is placed on genre albums, where people and ways of life come into focus. Peasant scenes, walks, fairs, carriages, military and urban views come together to form a detailed portrait of the era. The current poster for Moscow is presented on KUDAGO.
