About

Landscapes from different regions of Russia, created by Vladimir Bazhenov, Sergey Lyubimov, and Alexander Saikov during expeditions and plein airs, showcase the diverse nature of the country. The exhibition brings together the paintings and graphics of Vladimir Bazhenov, Sergey Lyubimov, and Alexander Saikov. The works were born during trips to Altai, Ural, Stavropol Krai, Karelia, as well as to the White Sea, Yamal, Baikal, Solovetsky Islands, Naryan-Mar, and Leningrad Oblast. Most of the works were painted from life in camping conditions, where the artists had to create in the rain, wind, and scorching sun. The large-format watercolors of Alexander Saikov are impressive, some reaching several meters. The artist paints without preliminary sketches, using unusual tools and sometimes allowing natural conditions to intervene in the process: frost, water, and air become co-authors. The works of Bazhenov and Lyubimov are close in their desire to convey the scale of space. The authors use generalized plans and a free painting style, which allows even simple motifs to acquire inner strength. We share ideas on where to go in St. Petersburg this weekend.
