Vasily Polenov was one of the first to combine the artistic traditions of Europe with Russian culture. He celebrated the Russian estate and peasant labor, reflecting on the higher purpose of art during a challenging era. This exhibition at the Suzdal Kremlin reveals various facets of Polenov's creativity, who was also a composer, for example. Vasily Polenov lived during the golden age of Russian painting, was a member of the famous Society of Wanderers and the Abramtsevo Circle, and mentored a host of outstanding artists. The exhibition features over 100 works created by Polenov and his students, as well as archival documents and personal belongings. Many of the items have never been exhibited before. The exhibition consists of eight sections dedicated to different aspects of the artist's life and work. At the beginning of the display, visitors are introduced to the Polenov family home, where innovative projects were born and where young artists came to work alongside the master. The second hall is dedicated to the motif of the journey, showcasing famous landscapes by Polenov, as well as those of his students and contemporaries - Isaac Levitan, Valentin Serov, Apollinary Vasnetsov, Ilya Ostroukhov, and others. In the concluding part of the exhibition, photographs by physicist and astronomer Leonid Kandaurov, who traveled with Polenov in the Middle East, are presented. The exhibits for the exhibition were provided by the largest Russian museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Polenovo Museum-Reserve, and others.
