The exhibition introduces how Prince Nikolai Yusupov explored his own estates, relying on maps, guides, and travel notes. Here you can see rare editions from his library and trace how the life of a vast estate empire changed. Behind the showcases are collected books, atlases, and descriptions of provinces used by one of the most influential nobles of the early 19th century. Through the printed pages, the route of his long travels emerges: from the central provinces to the southern port cities, from quiet estates to bustling trade fairs. Ethnographic and historical materials help to present how estates differed in various corners of the country, what crops were grown by peasants, and which crafts generated income. Separate sections tell how farms were restructured after inspection trips, how the system of inventory accounting and product distribution changed. Through dry numbers and strict tables, the fates of entire villages and settlements emerge, for which the owner's decisions became turning points. Particular attention is paid to the role of the printed word in managing large distances. Maps and multi-volume publications help to understand how the country's space looked through the eyes of a person accustomed to thinking in terms of dozens of provinces. This perspective on domestic history through a personal library and travel routes allows us to hear the echoes of the era anew and connect them with specific places, people, and events.
