At the heart of the exhibition are the letters and drawings of Prince Alexei Saltikov, created during his Indian journey from 1841 to 1846. He noted the structure of cities, the behavior of people, ceremonies, the luxury of palaces, and the rigidity of customs. The exhibition is built around 20 themes. They lead the viewer from the arrival in Madras to temple scenes in Ceylon, from the European rhythm of Calcutta to Lahore with its splendor and courtly brilliance.
