Pyotr Shvetsov continues to address the image of the swamp. His painting becomes a space for experimentation with material and form. The new series shows how the artist's attitude towards the traditional painting and its boundaries is changing. The image of the swamp appeared in Pyotr Shvetsov's works as early as the late 2000s and became one of the key themes in his practice. At that time, the artist created large panels, combining figurative painting with conceptual gestures and performative elements. He applied oil over the image, used sprays, silicone, tape, and metal parts, transforming the canvas into a complex multilayered object. Such work with material was a way to question the very idea of the classical painting. The surface looked deliberately unstable, as if the artwork was meant to deteriorate over time. The artist used coarse canvas and heavy textures to emphasize the rupture between academic painting and contemporary artistic practice.
