The exhibition addresses the dramatic events of the early 19th century and the role of Petersburg in their development. The exposition connects urban space, documents, and personal testimonies of participants. The exhibition is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Decembrists' uprising and is located in the building where investigative and judicial procedures against the conspirators took place. The opening took place on December 12, 2025. The focus is on the events of December 14, 1825, which ended with the suppression of the uprising on Senate Square. The formal reason for the uprising was the crisis of succession after the death of Alexander I, but its preparation was linked to the activities of secret societies. The capital of the empire became a key space in this story: future participants studied and served here, their families lived here, and it was here that the uprising took place. After its suppression, the conspirators were imprisoned in fortresses; five leaders were executed at Kronverk, while the others were sent into exile and hard labor. The exposition recreates Petersburg of the first quarter of the 19th century as the setting for these events. It features paintings and graphic images of the city, Senate Square, and the fortress, as well as houses associated with the movement's participants. Multimedia materials show the addresses of the Decembrists and memorial signs. Separate sections are dedicated to the course of the investigation, imprisonment, and events in the square. Among the key exhibits is a bas-relief dedicated to the death of M. A. Miloradovich, as well as personal belongings of the participants and a porcelain series from the 1920s featuring portraits of the Decembrists' wives.
