About

The exhibition introduces dolls from the collection of the Toy Museum, but not on display, rather within the game. The toys find themselves in everyday scenes and remind us how imagination turned simple plastic and fabric into entire worlds. The project is based on the idea of showing the toy in its familiar environment - as part of a living game. The dolls are not lined up in rows or frozen in neutral poses: they sit at a school desk, set the table, visit the doctor, do housework, and interact with other characters. These scenes help recall the atmosphere of a child's room, where everyday plots easily turned into home performances. The exhibition features dolls and toys from Soviet factories - "Lenigrushka", "Okhtalen", "Krugozor", the Ivanovo Toy Factory, and others. The most important criterion for selection was "playability" - the comfort of holding in hand and the naturalness of the doll's presence within the chosen narrative. Nearby, dolls from the GDR are displayed, which were once considered especially desirable gifts and objects of dreams. A separate emphasis is placed on how these toys differ from the flawless modern display heroes. The dolls of the past do not strive for perfect proportions and detailing, nor do they resemble collectible figurines and complex construction sets. They need a child's imagination to add expression and movement to the characters, thereby "bringing to life" the faceless plastic. Where to go with children in St. Petersburg can be found on KUDAGO.
