The exhibition shows how the concept of comfort in country life has changed and what significance was attributed to furniture in different eras. In ancient times, seating furniture in Russia was maximally simple - benches along the walls and portable benches formed the basis of the furnishings. Chairs remained a rarity for a long time and were perceived as a sign of special status. A turning point occurred during the time of Peter the Great, when tastes and requirements for interior design changed along with European influences. New samples began to be imported into the country, and then domestic craftsmen mastered their creation and gradually developed their own style. The exhibition is arranged chronologically and allows visitors to trace how forms and decorative solutions changed throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Here you can see furniture from different styles - from baroque models with curved legs to strict classical chairs and later examples with soft lines and more complex finishes. Each item reflects the ideas of its era about beauty, comfort, and status. Particular attention is drawn to items related to the history of the Ostafyevo estate and its owners.
