Graphic sketches made on the road and in field expeditions are gathered here into one route - from urban sketches to northern landscapes and the faces of people for whom the taiga and the sea have become home. The artist's working sheets turn into a diary of travels and encounters. The exhibition is dedicated to the artist Oleg Davidovich Yanovsky and his many years of work in the genre of realistic drawing. The hall features sketches of animals and birds, portraits of fishermen and geologists, quick studies made on the banks of rivers, in the taiga, and on snowy passes. These sheets were born right on the way: in a train car, in a hut, on board a vessel, or during short stops of the expedition, so one can easily feel the live movement of the model in them. After graduating from the institute, Yanovsky went on business trips to oil workers and geologists, visiting Siberia, Kamchatka, the Sea of Okhotsk, and Baikal. Each such trip turned into a series of sketches: notebooks featured the faces of workers, silhouettes of horses, dogs by the fire, and lines of wooden structures. Over time, the drawings became a visual chronicle of the era, recorded by an attentive eye. Today, Yanovsky is known as an author of expressive sculptural portraits, whose works are in the collections of major museums. The display of graphics emphasizes another side of his creativity: in the pencil lines, the same precision is felt as in sculpture, and the quick sketches convey the character of people and animals just as convincingly.
