About

25 etchings by Alexander Fedorov translate the novel "The Master and Margarita" into the language of contrasting lines, shadows, and expressive details. The graphic series connects familiar characters, key episodes, and objects of the era into a cohesive visual narrative. Bulgakov's novel appears here as a series of tense images, assembled from strokes, shadows, and sharp contrasts. Alexander Fedorov addresses the characters and symbols of the book, transforming the literary text into a graphic drama. The exhibition features 25 etchings created between 2015 and 2017 with the support of private publisher Danilov. The series is structured as a sequence of encounters with the characters and key scenes of the novel: the Moscow line coexists with the Jerusalem line, satire with tragedy, while everyday details lead to themes of guilt, fear, love, and moral choice. The artist works with the expressive possibilities of classical etching. Dense strokes, deep shadows, and sharp light accents create a disturbing space around the figures. The graphic cycle is complemented by items related to the culture and everyday life of the 1930s. They provide a historical backdrop and help to feel the novel more accurately. We share ideas on where to go in St. Petersburg this weekend.
