The photographs of Kamil Fırat come together to create a journey through the everyday life and cultural memory of Turkey. In the frames are faces, labor, celebrations, prayers, and traces of history that emerge in gestures, objects, and landscapes. In these photographs, Turkey is revealed through the everyday: the noise of markets, the weight of rural labor, the solemnity of rituals, children's faces, old streets, and the silence of prayer. The route, compiled from Kamil Fırat's shots, passes through Istanbul, Trabzon, Izmir, Rize, Kayseri, and Manisa. But the main focus here remains the human being. A musician with an instrument, workers with the harvested crop, guests at a wedding, villagers by their homes - each frame is held together by a gesture, a glance, a familiar movement, in which the history of the place emerges. Fırat is interested in a life where ancient cultural layers exist alongside the present day: a celebration gives way to labor, prayer to a domestic scene, an urban street to a rural landscape. From these fragments, an image of a country is formed where the past does not completely fade away but continues to resonate in the people. The series was created over several decades. Behind it lies an archive of about 200,000 negatives. This is the perspective of a photographer for whom the camera has become a way to maintain a connection with his homeland.
