About

The exhibition shows how music accompanied the life of the famous aristocratic family for several generations. Through works of art, documents, and musical relics, the path from a home hobby to a contribution to the cultural history of the country is traced here. The first section introduces how music enters the everyday life of the Russian nobility. Fashionable melodies are reflected in interiors and collections of paintings, the home orchestra and theater troupe become part of the usual routine, and the hosts gather musicians and artists around them and support performances. The next block is dedicated to the home theater with impressive decorations. Through the history of this stage, it is seen how private initiative elevates the family to the level of the opera society, where compositions by Rossini, Mozart, and other European composers appear on the posters. Gradually, personal tastes begin to influence the repertoire and connect European fashion with the local musical environment. A separate part of the project tells about the grandson of the estate owner, an art researcher of violin playing and a collector of string instruments. His collection entered the state repository, and the author's works are returning to concert practice. Manuscripts, documents, portraits, graphic sheets, and decorative-applied items come together to tell the story of how for almost one and a half centuries several generations supported musical initiatives and participated in the cultural life of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and European centers. The exhibition takes place in the Colonnade of the "Arkhangelskoye" Museum-Reserve. Visits to the Colonnade are held every hour starting from 10:00 and last for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The exhibition is closed on Mondays and the last Tuesday of the month. If you don't know where to stroll in Moscow, visit KudaGo.
