About

Evgeny Gorokhovsky is an artist who combined the precision of photography with painterly metaphysics. His work explores the boundaries of the visible, transforming reality into a space for reflection on time and memory. Evgeny Gorokhovsky (1951-2021) is one of the key representatives of Russian photorealism, having formed his own artistic language at the intersection of the documentary and the imaginary. The son of the famous unofficial art master Eduard Gorokhovsky, he inherited an interest in photography but transformed it from a tool for fixation into a means of philosophical exploration. The artist began his journey in the 1970s, surrounded by authors such as Ilya Kabakov, Viktor Pivovarov, and Eric Bulatov. Even then, his works were distinguished by a subtle play between the accuracy of reproduction and metaphysical subtext. For Gorokhovsky, a photograph is not an end form but a starting point from which a painterly structure is born. In his images, real figures coexist with abstract elements, ornamentation, and light vibrations, turning into a meditation on perception. The exhibition includes over 70 works from Russian museums and private collections. It illustrates the stages of the artist's creative evolution-from early graphic experiments and theatrical sketches to mature series exploring female identity, Eastern philosophy, and the phenomenon of ornamentation.
