About

A new exhibition from the Moscow Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to how Russian artists of the 20th and 21st centuries explore and represent space. In the early 20th century, artists developed a special interest in exploring space and its properties. This is related to a new worldview and, first and foremost, to Einstein's theory of relativity. New forms of art related to spatial dimension began to emerge, such as installations, kinetic objects, and sculptural painting. The exhibition features works by artists who have been active from the 1920s to the present day. Visitors will see works by David Burliuk, Eduard Krimmer, Vladimir Sterligov, Andrei Goncharov, Eric Bulatov, and other iconic authors for the museum. A key place in the exhibition is occupied by the works of Vladimir Favorovsky - a painter, graphic artist, and art theorist - for whom space is the main subject of painting, and the human being is the "measure of space." The central object of the exhibition is Favorovsky's monumental sgraffito "Female Profile," created in 1932. The exhibition "Measures of Space" continues the project "Collection. Point of View." It includes works from the MMOMA collections.
