About

The exhibition reveals a lesser-known side of Rezo Esadze - an artist whose graphics have long remained in the shadow of his film career. The works of the director and actor come together here to tell the story of a man for whom drawing was an important part of his off-screen life. The project is dedicated to the graphic works of Rezo Esadze - a director, actor, and screenwriter whose name is primarily associated with cinema. However, this exhibition allows us to see another facet of his personality. Before the audience stands an author who has been drawing since his youth and expressed a no less coherent view of the world in graphics than in cinematography. Esadze's biography itself resembles a plot about a change of vocation. Born in the Georgian village of Shemokmedi and initially trained as a geophysicist, he decided to change direction, moved to Moscow, and enrolled in VGIK in Mikhail Romm's workshop. Already during his student years, he debuted as an actor in the film "Nine Days of One Year," and then began his own directorial path. Later, his work was associated with "Lenfilm" and the "Georgia-Film" studio, which made him a notable figure in Soviet and Georgian cinema. Against this background, the graphic works are perceived especially interestingly: they return the viewer to the personal dimension of the artist, which is known much less. The exhibition becomes a gesture of memory for the master whose creative energy was not limited to the screen. The title of the project refers to one of his well-known films. The exhibition takes place at the "Totibadze" gallery at Vinzavod.
