Lilia Kosolapova - a chemist by education, a graphic artist by vocation - presents a series of works about the circus at the Kazan gallery: the light, movement, and color of the arena transferred to paper. Lilia Kosolapova specifically attended circus performances to observe: how the light works, how bodies move, how color changes from spotlight to spotlight. The result of her observations was nearly fifty sheets: the artist mixed ink, gouache, markers, watercolor, and acrylic, working on thin old paper with a warm cream tone. On sheets measuring 80×60 centimeters - the arena, rings, trajectories of ribbons and bodies, ladders, and nets. The faces of the gymnasts are intentionally generalized: the appearance is not important, but the plasticity and direction of movement. If you look closely, silhouettes of the audience emerge in the dark background, and elements of the auditorium can be discerned behind the beams of light. For Kosolapova, this marks two firsts: her first major solo exhibition and her first work in graphics of this size - she previously worked in smaller formats.
