About

Natalia Kabakova turns to the Chinese painting tradition. In her works, blooming branches, birds, fish, and childlike images come together to form a tranquil world where every line matters. Chinese painting in Natalia Kabakova's works resonates without loud gestures, through the precision of line, transparency of color, and attention to nature. Gongbi is a technique of slow observation. It requires not speed, but patience: the line must be laid precisely, the color must unfold gradually, and the detail must not lose its breath. Therefore, in these works, it is interesting to consider not only the overall plot but also the bend of a branch, the movement of a fin, a feather, and the barely noticeable transition of shades. A special part of the exhibition features Chinese fans. On their limited surface, the artist unfolds entire scenes: blooming branches, birds, fish, and plant motifs do not overload the space but seem to glide across it. A total of 104 works are presented. Among them is a children's series, where the classical technique becomes especially bright: trust, purity of gaze, and wonder are important. Next to the paintings, Chinese brushes, paints, and water containers are displayed. They help to see what gives birth to this fragile precision. Ideas on where to go in Moscow are collected on KUDAGO.
