About

The exhibition will showcase the delicate lines of ancient calligraphy alongside polished brass sculptures, where Arabic letters form three-dimensional shapes. The exhibition is dedicated to the year when Kazan will become the cultural capital of the Islamic world. At the core of this part of the exhibition is the work of Damir Akhmatgaliev with manuscripts of the Quran from the 7th to the 19th centuries, stored in museum and library collections from various countries: the artist recreated 51 pages of text based on them. Among them are replicas of the "Blue Quran," manuscripts from the Ottoman and Safavid empires, and the complete text of the Quran written on a single page. Separately, one can see how Arabic calligraphy has evolved: from strict kufi to flowing naskh and decorative thuluth. Next to the manuscripts, a collection by Azamat Gilyazetdinov will be displayed - 99 miniature brass sculptures dedicated to the names of Allah. They appear as thin graphic signs, carved from metal and polished to a mirror shine. The exhibition establishes a calm dialogue between ancient manuscripts and contemporary plastic art, showing how the same tradition can resonate in different forms.
