At the exhibition in the Museum of Architecture and Design, the watercolors of Oleg Volkhin coexist with battle maps and archival documents collected around the events on the Khalkhin-Gol River. Here, too, is the story of the architect, who temporarily steps away from familiar urban projects into military memories. The exhibition is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Volkhin, whose architectural solutions and buildings are known in the city from the practice of the Ural school of urban planning in the second half of the 20th century. A separate layer of his biography is connected to the Transbaikal Military District and participation in the battles of 1939. He returned to this theme decades later, when in 1989 he created a series of watercolors from memory, capturing brief episodes of front-line life and rare pauses between battles. These sheets contain much observation of people nearby - without pathos and sharp accents. The halls display ten original watercolor sketches, a poster for the 1989 exhibition, as well as photographs and documents from the UrGAPU museum's archives.
