A large-scale exhibition invites viewers on a journey through four millennia of portrait history - from ancient civilizations to the digital age. This is a great opportunity to see how humanity has understood its own image and the time it lived in. Before visitors opens a unique panorama of the genre, uniting more than 750 works - from ancient Egyptian statues and classical cameos to paintings by Velázquez, Matisse, Picasso, and works by contemporary masters. Such a large-scale overview allows us to see how the perception of man has changed: from sacred images and idealized rulers to psychologically subtle portraits and bold experimental forms. In one space, pharaohs and European monarchs, Roman emperors and heroes of our time, photographic images and classical busts coexist. From era to era, the portrait has become a document, a symbol, or an attempt to preserve the soul of a person - and each exhibit reveals its own story. Special attention is paid to the modern view of the genre: works by Bacon, Warhol, Mamyshev-Monroe, and other artists show how the portrait enters into dialogue with digital culture.
