For contemporaries, the All-Russian Exhibition of 1896 was an event that was talked about long after its closure. The new exhibition at the Rukavishnikov Estate offers a look at it through photographs, objects, and stories of people who found themselves at the center of the happenings. The exhibition tells about the arrival of the imperial family and foreign delegations in Nizhny Novgorod, among whom was the Chinese statesman Li Hongzhang. Thanks to the photographs of the photographer Maxim Dmitriev, one can imagine the scale of the exhibition town and see what one of the most notable events of the late 19th century looked like. Among the exhibits are souvenirs, products from participating factories, and a collection of ceramics from the Abramtsevo workshop of Savva Mamontov, reflecting the new artistic trends of its time. A special place is occupied by the reconstruction of the costume of the rynda - the honorary guard of the royal persons, and nearby one can see an authentic halberd that belonged to one of the members of the imperial guard. The exhibition is complemented by the history of the first Nizhny Novgorod City Art and Historical Museum, opened specifically for the exhibition.
