At the Metenkov House, they tell the story of a man without whom this museum might not have existed - Evgeny Biryukov. Evgeny Biryukov rejected the term "photography enthusiast": he considered himself a "photographist", meaning someone who both takes pictures and studies the past. He was among those who created the "Metenkov House" museum in Yekaterinburg and remained here to work for the rest of his life. In the 1970s and 80s, he began collecting old postcards depicting the pre-revolutionary city, and among them, a special place was held by a card featuring the house on Karl Liebknecht Street, 36, where the Ural photographer Veniamin Metenkov once had his studio. This building was photographed by Biryukov again and again, and he kept its image close at hand. When the building faced demolition, he led the campaign for preservation, seeing in the old walls the future museum of photography. The exhibition showcases his collection of postcards and traces how one person's personal passion transformed into a museum that continues to operate in the city today.
