About

Pre-revolutionary photographs gather the chronicle of Tsarskoye Selo - from imperial walks to dacha meetings and urban portraits. The frames show people, holidays, everyday life, architecture, and a way of life fading into the past. Archival photographs transform Tsarskoye Selo into a city of living details: here coexist palace life, dacha seasons, children's games, military uniforms, and faces of people whose names may still return from family memory. The photos look like an old album, where between official events unexpectedly appear almost domestic scenes. The imperial residence ceases to be a static decoration. Special attention is given to photographs of Nicholas II and his family. Here, the movement of everyday life is important: a skiing walk, kayaks in Alexander Park, a snow hill by the White Tower. Nearby are frames from the jubilee exhibition of 1911, when the city looked back at its own two-hundred-year history. The dacha part sounds softer and freer. In Mikhail Riznikov's album, there are meetings with friends, bicycles, walks in Catherine Park. The final emphasis is on portraits of residents, military personnel, and officials. 65 photographs from various museum collections allow us to see Tsarskoye Selo not as a legend, but as a place where every day left its mark. Venue - "Admiralty" pavilion in Catherine Park. We share ideas on where to go in St. Petersburg this weekend.
