A painting series transforms familiar candy wrappers into objects of careful contemplation. Through bright details and nostalgia, artist Elena Kovylyna speaks about the connection between generations and cultural codes that live in everyday life. At the core of the project are familiar childhood paper wrappers from caramel and chocolate candies. "World", "Swallow's Mail", "Red Poppy", "Golden Key", "Muscovite", "Duchess", and other recognizable names become the heroes of the paintings. Artist Elena Kovylyna considers the wrapper as a carrier of memory. Creases, folds, scuffs, colorful drawings, and fonts are enlarged to a scale where the familiar trifle begins to resonate as an important sign of the times. What is usually quickly thrown away or unnoticed here receives space, light, and almost museum-like solemnity. This optics helps to see the cultural trace in an everyday object. Candy wrappers preserve images of the Soviet and post-Soviet visual environment, telling stories of tastes, dreams, childhood memories, family tea parties, and simple joys.
