About

Over 200 exhibits from St. Petersburg's storerooms will arrive in the Urals - and about half of them have never been displayed before. The exhibition dedicated to Catherine the Great will occupy two venues: the main building of the city museum of fine arts and the Cultural and Educational Center "Hermitage-Ural." Some items have been specially restored for this display. The exhibition is built around the connection of the empress with the Ural region - not biographical, but quite tangible. Here you can see a painted samovar from the Troitsk factory, imitating Chinese lacquers, and a writing instrument that local industrialist Turchaninov presented to the empress as a token of gratitude - both items were kept in the Hermitage. Nearby are portraits of merchant and noble families whose enterprises supplied products directly to the imperial court. A separate section is dedicated to stone carving: candle holders made of gray granite and quartz, the "Grotto-Fountain" made from Ural and Siberian stones, cameos - including works by the first Ural stone carver-cameo artist Tetenyev. All of this once settled in the collections of Catherine II, from which the Hermitage began. Where to go in Yekaterinburg is known by KudaGo.
