About

More than two hundred items from St. Petersburg's storerooms will arrive in Yekaterinburg - some of them have just come out of restoration and have never been exhibited before. The exhibition dedicated to Catherine the Great will occupy two venues: the Main Building of the City Museum of Fine Arts and the Hermitage-Ural Center. It opens with a grand portrait of the empress by Johann-Baptist Lampi the Elder - a painting that once hung in the hall of the Mining School founded by Catherine herself. The exhibition is structured as a narrative about a specific person with specific habits. In the showcases are items from her daily life: seals, writing utensils, a card table with a deck. A ceremonial dress uniform for guard ceremonies and books written by her for her grandchildren - those that were called "Grandmother's Alphabet" at court - are displayed separately. Next to personal belongings are portraits of her closest circle, items from the Imperial Porcelain Factory, Tula craftsmen, and the Potemkin Glass Factory, as well as jewelry from the Hermitage's Jewel Gallery. Among the paintings, the portrait of Grand Duke Pavel Petrovich by Dmitry Levitsky stands out - a recent acquisition of the Hermitage collection, shown for the first time. Ideas on where to go in Yekaterinburg are collected on our website.
