The project is dedicated to the emergence and development of domestic photography as a unique way of preserving memory. Through rare photographs and objects from the era, it reveals how images shaped a person's perception of themselves and their time. The exhibition addresses the history of Russian photography in the 19th century, showcasing the early stages of photography's formation. At the center of attention are over 30 early photographs and portrait "visiting cards," antique cameras, lenses, daguerreotypes, and a rare photo album from the second half of the 19th century. Photography is presented not as a mechanical fixation of reality, but as a tool for preserving memory. Already in the studio, a person consciously created the desired image: choosing a suit, pose, background, props, demonstrating social status and cultural codes of the era. The photograph conveyed not a moment, but an intention - what they wanted to remain in the memory of future generations. It shows how photography rapidly developed in Russia, progressing from daguerreotype and wet collodion processes to albumen prints and dry plates, which opened up possibilities for artistic experiments.
